In a large bowl cream butter, sugar, molasses, and egg until fully combined. In a separate bowl, sift together flour baking soda, ground cloves, ground ginger, cinnamon, and salt. Mix the flour into the butter mixture until fully incorporated.
Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour. Form into 1 inch balls and roll in sugar. Gently press cookies down and bake at 375 for 7-10 minutes.
